Adventure Comics #332 May 1965

A space whale with little wings is flying around the solar system gobbling up metal objects. HE MUST BE STOPPED. Lighting Lad tries to stop the ‘Super-Moby Dick of Space’ but is poisoned by his own reflected lightning bolts and looses an arm. More after the break.

I’m a little confused about a very important part of the Legion constitution. Is killing (no exceptions) grounds for expulsion or just killing when not necessary? I’m getting mixed signals in this issue. I’m sure Star Boy has his own two cents to add to this discussion.

I should add that I think a rule like ‘no killing, no exceptions’ is wrong. There are circumstances where taking a life is justifiable. Fortunately in comics there’s always an alternative to killing but I found it strange that the Legion comics would emphasis this rule so much.

Oh, check this out: classic literature-inspired jerky-ness!

Comic Crack Alert!!!

A giant space-dwelling whale with tiny wings?

On my Legion Jerk © scale this issue gets a:

Good going Legion!

  1. I was a big fan of Legion of Super Heroes from about 1959 till 1968. Would love to see this group treated by Hollywood in the same way that Batman, Iron man, Superman, Fantastic 4, etc. have been so popular. I think they would be “super” popular.
